 Job Summary:


The Automation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation systems across oil and gas production facilities. This includes working with PLCs, RTUs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and communications infrastructure to ensure efficient and safe operations. The technician plays a key role in supporting remote monitoring, process optimization, and compliance with environmental and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Install and configure PLCs, RTUs, and SCADA systems for field production sites and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair automation and control system issues, both remotely and on-site.
  • Work with electrical and instrumentation teams to ensure correct sensor and control wiring.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and production teams to support field development.
  • Perform routine inspections and testing to maintain system uptime and performance.
  • Calibrate and maintain sensors and transmitters (e.g., pressure, flow, level, temperature).
  • Ensure all automation systems are compliant with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Document work, update control logic diagrams, and maintain accurate system records.
  • Assist with communications systems (radios, modems, cell gateways) used for remote access.
  • Support the integration of new wells, equipment, or facilities into existing SCADA platforms.

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or associate degree in instrumentation, automation, or electrical systems preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in oil and gas field automation or industrial controls.
  • Strong understanding of SCADA, PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), and RTUs (e.g., ABB, Emerson ROC, Schneider Electric).
  • Working knowledge of Modbus, OPC, and TCP/IP communications protocols.
  • Familiarity with HMI software, telemetry, and alarm management systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, P&IDs, and control logic schematics.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in remote field locations.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to field sites as needed.
  • Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
