About the role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team as we transition our accounting operations in-house from a third-party firm. The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote environment. This role will be instrumental in managing collections, AP processing, month-end close tasks, and helping to document and improve our accounting workflows.
What you’ll do / Key Responsibilities
- Own the accounts receivable and collections process, including customer follow-ups, tracking aging, and coordinating with Account Management for resolution.
- Manage accounts payable, including vendor setup, invoice processing, payment scheduling, and reconciliation in QuickBooks.
- Conduct monthly account reconciliations for bank, AP, AR, credit cards, and prepaid accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Drive month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account clean-up.
- Maintain and improve Brex transaction coding, ensuring all receipts are attached and properly categorized.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure proper approval workflows and documentation are followed.
- Help build and maintain step-by-step documentation for all accounting processes as part of bringing the function in-house.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and standardization to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist with audit preparation, external inquiries, and ad hoc financial tasks as needed.
- Support systems integration and migration efforts, including potentially upgrading from QuickBooks to a new ERP system in the future.
What we’re looking for / About You / Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in accounting roles with strong exposure to AP, AR, and reconciliations.
- Hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online and Brex.
- Excellent attention to detail and a process-oriented mindset.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
- Comfortable learning and documenting new systems and workflows.
- Experience transitioning accounting functions from external firms to internal teams.
- Familiarity with revenue and expense recognition specific to tech-enabled service or marketplace business models.
- Experience working with SQL or collaborating with internal data teams and managing large datasets.
- Exposure to tech or labor marketplace environments is a plus.
- Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. AP/AR compliance is beneficial.
