We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Test Engineer, who will primarily be supporting design, development, test, and evaluation of structural and mechanical components of the first commercial space station. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Associate Manager.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Lead and/or support design efforts for new ground test systems of space station environmental control and life support hardware including propulsion, structures, and avionics
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with existing test systems to facilitate rapid iterative testing
  • Work hands-on to get test systems functional and eliminate barriers to testing
  • Conduct and assist with test planning, risk assessments, safety and test readiness reviews
  • Support the use of various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance
  • Lead and support generation of post-test data reviews and test report documentation
  • Ability to work and collaborate with technicians to build high quality and functional test systems
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • 7-12 years’ experience in test engineering or a similar role, or a combined equivalent of education and experience
  • Hands on experience building, testing and/or assembling space flight hardware
  • Experience with mechanical component and instrumentation selection for test systems
  • Familiar with electrical integration of analog and digital components with data acquisition systems (cRIO, cDAQ, Labview)
  • Experience with pressure system test stands and complex fluid systems, especially common industry fittings (ORB, JIC, AN, Swag, NPT, etc.)
  • Experienced designing and supporting A&I (Assembly and Integration) activities related to GSE (Ground Support Equipment)
  • Experience troubleshooting real-time and finding solutions to mechanical and electrical problems
  • Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, or other data acquisition and data reduction software(s)
  • Experience with hazard gases in laboratory and test environments (oxygen, methane, carbon dioxide, etc.)
  • Experience working with mechanical and electrical technicians
  • Knowledge of NASA-STD-5005 (standard for the design and fabrication of ground support equipment) and AWS D17.1
  • Working Knowledge of 3-D modeling software, 2-D drawings, and creating Bill of Materials (BOM)
  • Experience working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment

Requirements


  • Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
  • Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position

Physical Requirements


  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time)
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time)
