Job Title: Senior Accountant IEffective Date:4/21/2025Reports to: Accounting ManagerPay Range: $35.63 - $43.31 per hourStatus:☒ Full Time ☐ Part Time ☒ Regular ☐ TemporaryFLSA: ☐Exempt ☒ Non-ExemptJob Summary:The SeniorAccountant I plays a key role in managing complex financial activities with a strategic lens. This position is responsible for leading high-level reconciliations, preparing accurate financial reports, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Senior Accountants also contribute to improving accounting processes, mentor junior staff, and provide insights to leadership. Duties may rotate or shift based on team needs and supervisor assignments.Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage complex reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
  • Prepare, review, and present financial reports and ensure they align with GAAP and organizational standards to Program managers and Officers.
  • Lead or assist in audit preparation, including gathering documentation and responding to audit requests.
  • Support grant and contract accounting, including compliance tracking, reporting deadlines and invoice submission in a manner consistent with CSC's contractual obligations. 
  • Partner with the Controller or senior finance leadership on process improvements and internal controls.
  • Assist in budget development and forecasting support as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and cross-functional projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

  • Participate in professional development trainings and conferences.
  • Support the implementation of new financial software or system upgrades.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

Experience:

  • 6-8 years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle AP/AR and reconciliation responsibilities.

Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
  • Experience using cloud-based systems and document management tools.

Soft Skills:

  • Analytical and strategic thinker.
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative mindset.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback.
  • Initiative-driven with a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Team-support mindset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or advanced coursework in accounting or finance is a plus.

  • CPA or active progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or grant funding
  • Familiarity with GAAP compliance in a nonprofit context.
  • Previous involvement in audits or financial compliance reviews.
  • Lived or professional experience working with Native or Indigenous communities

Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to work at a desk for extended periods, with occasional movement around the office. The role involves frequent use of a PC, extensive typing, and constant communication with team members, including phone use. Attention to detail is essential for reading and writing documents in both hard and electronic formats. The physical demands include routine office tasks and equipment operation. Occasional travel may be required, depending on the location.The position is based in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels and frequent interruptions, often under deadlines.
