Technical Writer

atVenuCalgary, Alberta, CanadaOnsite

About the Job:

Thus far atVenu has been fortunate enough to rely on our engineering, product and operation teams to document their own work, inclusive of customer facing training materials. However, documentation is not what drives these folks, and as such, we are seeking an experienced Technical Writer who loves technology, detail and can effectively connect with an extremely diverse audience using atVenu’s voice. Our Technical Writer will be accountable for documenting technical specs, user guides, training materials and anything else that comes their way.

Documentation may be used internally or externally. We will also be relying on this individual to help maintain an easy-to-use documentation storage system.

Report To:

VP, Engineering

You Will:

  • Assess user needs to understand the purpose, preferred mediums, and accessibility requirements for requested documentation.
  • Author new technical documentation, user guides, and training materials and/or continuously improve existing documentation in collaboration with engineering, product management and operations.
  • Work with our Creative Director to establish, maintain and implement style guides for the purposes of documentation that is internally and/or externally facing.
  • Provide guidance to peers on documenting new features, structuring content and offering feedback.
  • Oversee the documentation platform and tools, while continually seeking opportunities for automation and improvement.
  • Work with the leadership team to establish secure and sustainable filing management systems, inclusive of version control best practices.
  • Be comfortable experimenting with new technologies and recommending tools that can optimize the way we manage our documentation pipeline.
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously.

You Should Have:

  • 5 years of technical writing experience in the technology sector, with a proven track record of producing high-quality content that effectively communicates complex technical concepts.
  • A willingness to get hands on with our product and service offerings; become a SME on our product capabilities and limitations.
  • Proven ability to work with various stakeholders and deliver documentation that aligns with product strategy, customer needs, and technical standards.
  • Self-motivation and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing documentation needs, ensuring that our content remains current and highly impactful.
  • Drive and willingness to be self-sufficient, but not so much so that time is wasted due to independent efforts.

Location:

  • The majority of our engineering team resides in Calgary, Alberta and our operations team in San Clemente, California. The ideal candidate will be based in a timezone that is conducive to Mountain Standard and Pacific time.
