About the Role: Assistant Controller


In this Chicago-based role, we are looking for an Assistant Controller who will report to the CFO. They will oversee the financial operations of the company and ensure  accurate and timely financial reporting. The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, excellent collaboration skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to provide accurate and timely information to senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and other external stakeholders.
  • Manage the company's cash flow and investments to ensure adequate liquidity and profitability.
  • Ensure that all financial records are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
  • Manage the Staff Accountant, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support on various projects and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.

Required Education and Experience:


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including experience mentoring others. Industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Must be an excellent collaborator, able to successfully partner with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to successfully share complex financial information with non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience with financial software and systems, including ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be able prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to review, improve and streamline processes.
