Job Title: IT Systems Administrator SME 


Job Location: Colorado Springs, CO / Huntsville, AL


Job Description


The Systems Administrator must Operate, maintain and manage Windows/Linux based domain supporting a software development environment. Responsible for the overall day-to-day operations of the Windows/Linux environment and is responsible for backup and recovery (to include disaster recovery) of system data.

Must have an active and transferable DoD security clearance with current investigation at the required level. Must be able to maintain the required clearance


Required Education/Experience:


  • An advanced degree and 7+ years experience or bachelors with 9+ years experience or equivalent; applies extensive expertise; solves complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity; work is performed without appreciable direction and is reviewed for desired results from a relatively long time perspective; erroneous decisions would normally result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives; may function in project leadership roles and represents the organization as prime customer contact on significant technical matters on contracts.

Required Skills:


  • Ensure all data is being backed up per COOP and BCP 
  • Ensure backup system is functioning correctly and periodically test the backup system by restoring files 
  • Respond appropriately to any security or virus incident discovered in the system              
  • Install, configure, monitor, manage and maintain all Windows/Linux based servers 
  • Create and maintain Windows/Linux system administration processes and procedures
  • Install, configure, manage and maintain all Windows/Linux server based applications 
  • Ensure all Windows/Linux based systems have the appropriate patches installed – includes but is not limited to, security, applications and OS 
  • Ensure all Windows/Linux based systems are running current versions of antivirus software with current virus definition files 
  • Create, manage and maintain group policy objects, security groups, user accounts
  • Monitor, manage and maintain storage systems and devices 
  • Recommend system enhancements, including but not limited to, servers, applications, storage, processes and procedures 
  • Recommend when additional system resources are required or when existing resources should be retired 
  • Ensure all appropriate asset management functions are completed as required 
  • All other tasks as assigned by the IT site lead or IT manager Secondary Responsibilities 
  • Assist the help desk respond to end users requests/issues

Desired Skills:


  • Knowledge of the following: Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) 
  • Multi-Factor Authentication implementation, OpenShift, OpenStack, VMware ESXI, QAS/VAS, Windows, Active Directory, Backup and Recovery, Containers and  Container Orchestration products. Knowledge of Git, Nexus, Jenkins, Jira and Confluence.
  • Understand the concept of PaaS and SaaS. Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery and how it applies to IT and IT products.
