POSITION SUMMARY


The Director of Clinical Skills and Practice is a key member of the clinical operations leadership team. This role collaborates on the creation and execution of the clinical development and training strategies and oversees the development of the clinical staff to support professional development and excellent clinical competencies. The role identifies and acts on opportunities to improve individual and organizational performance as well as effectiveness of the clinical training. This role collaborates with various clinical departments to ensure clinical training is relevant for specific clinical roles.

This role works in closely and in direct partnership with Learning & Development to ensure clinical academy, skills days, and sim labs meet organizational clinical requirements, and to produce, update, and distribute clinical training and development materials.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Works with clinical leadership to determine preferences for comprehensive clinical learning strategy to meet and best serve business priorities.
  • Collaborates with Director of Learning & Development to ensure the development of curricula, simulation, job training, and continuous education materials and programs meets the comprehensive clinical learning strategy and ensures clinical employee career growth. 
  • Partners with Learning & Development to create standards related to clinical teams needs assessment, curriculum design, implementation, integration of skills, and evaluation, acting as the representative of the clinical leadership in this partnership.
  • Routinely collaborates with leadership in each clinical department to ensure curriculum is customized to support the learning objectives for each group.
  • Partners with the Director of Learning & Development to procure and manage external vendor/partner relationships ensuring those selected result in high-quality, cost-effective clinical learning solutions.
  • Manages and oversees the clinical Field Trainers and Preceptors ensuring clinical training in the field is being taught to employees in a consistent manner and meets all clinical training standards.
  • Reviews operations occurrences to identify trends and determine necessary clinical training updates and process changes, then partners with Learning & Development to ensure changes are integrated into curriculum and materials.
  • Coaches frontline team members by providing consistent, evidence-based critical thinking and decision support while considering appropriate resource management decisions. Provides thorough, in-depth guidance utilizing highly developed clinical expertise and advanced knowledge of the organ donation process.
  • Problem solves with clinical department team members. Advises staff when working through operational challenges by providing mentoring, talking points, coaching, and on-site support.
  • Communicates deviations from standard behavior and/or practices to the appropriate manager for follow-up.
  • Works in conjunction with the Director of Learning & Development to ensure trainings are updated and released in the LMS. And assists with training, development and educational initiatives. 

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Expert knowledge in education and training within a Health Care environment; including but not limited to clinical education, precepting, competency development, and performance assessment.
  • Expert knowledge in education and training within a regulated environment.
  • Possesses the ability to synthesize and distill complex processes into practical and actionable educational and training offerings. 
  • Expert knowledge of leadership and management development concepts, models, tools, programs/suppliers, and learning methodologies.
  • Possesses and applies strong knowledge base in organizational capability development, adult and organizational learning theory, instructional design, and technology to the selection and design of appropriate learning solutions.
  • Ability to effectively demonstrate capabilities as a leadership coach, performance consultant, and talent director.
  • Expert in organizational development and the complex processes required to make step change to drive improvement.
  • Strong clinical background to ensure highest education and readiness standards. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


  • Advanced degree as a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in allied health or biological sciences required.
  • 5 years’ experience working in a hospital Intensive Care Unit preferred.
  • 5 years’ experience working in an organ and tissue procurement organization preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience in training/development role.
  • Healthcare industry experience required.
  • Organizational Development experience preferred.
