POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Accountant will work collaboratively with the global Finance team to deliver our plans and objectives. The Senior Accountant will be responsible, along with other Finance team members, for the preparation and reporting of the myDNA internal and external monthly reporting, ensuring policies and procedures are maintained and followed, and ensuring a clean audit report.The role will be expected to use technical subject matter expertise and client focused work ethic to respond proactively to accounting queries from internal stakeholders and work with external advisors to ensure that the compliance obligations are met.
The role will also help to ensure that the governance frameworks for financial controls and risk management continue to effectively support the global operational structure. In addition to broad BAU responsibilities, this role will also provide opportunities to get involved in interesting projects as required for a growing business.Equally important will be an aptitude for combining technical expertise and business acumen to deliver rigorous and timely results, flair for building highly collaborative working relationships and the energy and drive to manage competing priorities in a growth focused and high performing corporate environment.
Key Activities and Responsibilities:
General Accounting- 45%
Cash:
- Monitor daily cash balances across all bank accounts to ensure adequate funds are available for operational needs
- Process band record daily cash receipts and disbursements daily
- Perform timely and accurate reconciliation of all bank accounts on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, identifying and resolving any discrepancies
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items, including outstanding checks, deposits in transit, and bank charges
- Maintain organized documentation to support all reconciliation activities
- Collaborate with the Accounts Receivable contact to monitor collections
- Work with the Accounts Payable contact to optimize payment schedules and ensure timely and accurate vendor payments
- Investigate and resolve cash application issues
Accounts Payable:
- Receive, review, and process vendor invoices accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper coding to the general ledger within procurement automation tool daily
- Ensure compliance with vendor invoices with purchase orders (POs)
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies between invoices, POs, and receiving reports timely
- Prepare weekly payment run that provides a comprehensive view of vendor inquiries
- Maintain accurate records of all payments made, including the relevant documentation
- Respond to vendor inquiries regarding payment status
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date vendor records, including contact information, payment terms, and tax information (e.g., W-9)
- Communicate effectively with vendors to resolve invoice discrepancies, payment issues, and other inquiries.
- Assist in the onboarding of new vendors
Month End:
- Post month end journals for following balances to close the result by workday 3. Includes prepaid expenses, tax, intercompany, fixed assets, intangible assets, and accruals.
- Reconciliation of key account balances by WD4 and all other account balances by WD10
- Perform monthly reconciliation of vendor statements to the accounts payable sub-ledger
- Investigate and resolve any outstanding balances or discrepancies within cash accounts
Corporate Expense Management-15%
- Process daily transactions, ensuring accurate coding to align with the budget
- Proactively communicates with cardholders regarding missing information to facilitate timely reporting of Brex data
- Reconcile card statements to general ledger accounts
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in card transactions
- Generate regular and ad-hoc reports on card usage, spending patterns, and compliance
- Communicate effectively with cardholders, managers, and vendors regarding card program matters
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders (e.g., HR, IT, Accounting) to ensure smooth program operations and be a business partner to the organization
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all cardholder information, applications, changes, and cancellations through the credit cards inbox
- Ensure proper documentation is retained in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements
Financial Reporting and FP&A-10%
- Assist in the preparation of reports to senior management, including P&L and balance sheet reviews, cash flow and commentaries which focus on risks and opportunities
- Identify key drivers of revenue and expenses, updating forecasts and budgets as necessary
- Provide commentary and insights into key account variances
- Support the business and internal stakeholders on ad-hoc projects requiring financial/technical accounting assistance and/or involvement
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial data for reporting and budgeting/forecasting during the in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
- Assist with ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the Accounting Manager
Internal Controls and Compliance-10%
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and laws, as well as the Company's internal policies and procedures
- Own the implementation of new and improved control recommendations as required to ensure internal controls are in place and always operate effectively
- Adhere to and enforce internal controls related to the accounts payable process
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant accounting and tax regulations
- Assist with the preparation and filing of annual tax forms related to vendor payments (e.g.: 1099 forms)
- Adhere to and enforce internal controls related to cash handling and management
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant accounting regulations.
- Support Head of Finance with local tax compliance
Audit-10%
- Assist auditors with the preparation of audit schedules and work papers
- Respond to auditor inquiries and requests for information in a timely and accurate manner
- Facilitate communication and coordination between the department and the audit team
- Ensure that requested data and documentation are readily available for auditors
Development and Other-10%
- Assist with developing and aligning financial policies, procedures, systems, and processes and coordinating these processes with other internal departments to streamline and build cohesion across the business
- Recommend process improvements and participate in system upgrades
- Act as key SME for NetSuite, QuickBooks, or other accounting related platforms
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making to support the company’s long-term objectives
Requirements
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong understanding of accounting standards.
- Ability to resolve accounting and finance issues through research and analysis.
- Sufficient knowledge to perform recurring financial duties with a reasonable degree of independence.
- Command knowledge to be a dependable resource to the finance team.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., able to analyse large quantities of data, data sorts, VLOOKUP, PivotTables, filters, etc.)
- Ability to identify areas for improvement to ensure continuous improvement.
- Robust technical accounting knowledge.
- Demonstrates high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, with a focus on quality in all work and activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the business.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office 365 including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms, etc.
- Skills and prior exposure to using financial software is preferred (e.g., NetSuite or other similar platforms) preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Accounting, Finance or similar positions.
- Strong technical accounting expertise, with experience including GL accounting.
- Ability to work autonomously in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, manage time effectively, and handle a diverse workload.
- A self-starter with a proactive, innovative mindset.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical or, FMCG industry, or biosciences environment preferred.
- Previous exposure and experience working through mergers or organizational changes preferred.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or working towards CPA strongly preferred.
Travel:
- Occasional travel may be required.
