Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Windows Systems Engineer to design, implement, and support enterprise-level Windows infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong, extensive experience with Active Directory and Windows Server, with related experience in other Microsoft enterprise software such as Microsoft Exchange, O365/Teams, SharePoint, Intune, or OneDrive. Additional experience in typical large enterprise third-party application administration, including Oracle, Splunk, Tenable, and others is highly desirable.
You will work with a team to develop and execute project plans to migrate these systems and a subset of their users and data to new instances in a new network deployment. Azure experience is a plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain Windows Server 2016/2019 environments, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Administer and optimize Active Directory (AD), Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and LDAP services.
- Administer Domain Trusts and configure Identity Federation between and new and existing environments during transition.
- Manage and support Microsoft Exchange Server and Office 365 environments.
- Install, configure, and maintain third-party applications, including or similar to:
- Oracle Database: Support, patching, and integration with Windows environments.
- Splunk: Deployment, log management, and system monitoring.
- Tenable (Nessus, Tenable.io, Tenable.sc): Security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance reporting.
- Implement and maintain security best practices, including patch management, access controls, and vulnerability mitigation.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and provide proactive solutions.
- Configure and manage networking components, including firewalls, VPNs, routers, and switches.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support enterprise applications and IT infrastructure projects.
- Create and maintain documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Provide Level 2/3 support for escalated technical issues and participate in on-call rotations as needed.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Windows Systems Engineer or Administrator in an enterprise environment.
- Strong expertise in Windows Server 2016/2019 administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Extensive experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, Domain Trusts, Identify Federation, DNS, DHCP, and LDAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Exchange Server (2016/2019) and Office 365 email administration.
- Hands-on experience with third-party applications, including:
- Oracle Database (installation, patching, performance tuning).
- Splunk (deployment, dashboard creation, log analysis).
- Tenable (Nessus, Tenable.io, Tenable.sc) (security scanning and vulnerability management).
- Knowledge of networking protocols, firewalls, VPNs, routing, and switching.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation and system management.
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V.
- Strong understanding of backup solutions, disaster recovery, and high-availability configurations.
- Knowledge of security best practices, compliance (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001), and patch management.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex system, application, and network-related issues.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
- Familiarity with Exchange Online and hybrid Exchange environments.
- Experience with Windows Server clustering and load balancing.
- Certifications such as MCSE, MCSA, Azure Administrator Associate, or CCNA.
