About the Role
The Vice President of Engineering is a pivotal leadership position reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer. You will guide multiple engineering teams, shaping and executing the technology strategy to support our mission of creating a more equitable and accessible healthcare system.
As the Vice President of Engineering, you will
- Lead and support cross-functional engineering teams across Fabric’s three product suites and shared services, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Partner with the CTO and other stakeholders to define and implement an engineering strategy aligned with company goals and the product roadmap.
- Oversee the architecture, design, development, and deployment of software solutions that meet standards for scalability, security, compliance (including HIPAA and HITRUST), and performance, while ensuring inclusive design and usability.
- Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to translate business needs into clear technical specifications, accurate estimations, and achievable delivery timelines.
- Manage engineering budgets and resources effectively to support innovation while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Attract, develop, and retain engineering talent by cultivating a team environment focused on collaboration, technical growth, and shared ownership of outcomes.
- Champion continuous improvement within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), focusing on quality, maintainability, and delivery predictability.
- Promote learning and the adoption of best practices, incorporating feedback and lessons learned to inform future development cycles.
- Develop and scale engineering processes and team structures to support Fabric’s growth, including managing distributed and international teams with effective communication across time zones.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.
- Preferred: Experience in the healthcare technology sector, with deep knowledge of compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, HITRUST, and SOC 2; familiarity with EMR integrations, care delivery models, and platforms serving both patients and providers; and a demonstrated commitment to addressing health equity in technology-enabled care solutions.
- Proven experience building and leading multiple high-performing engineering teams (50+ team members), within a growth-stage startup environment. Experience with remotely distributed and international teams is a plus.
- Deep understanding of software development methodologies, architectural design, and technology best practices, with a commitment to inclusive and equitable product development.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, as well as modern software development tools and practices.
- Analytical and systems-thinking capabilities, with a focus on delivering measurable outcomes aligned with organizational and user impact.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire teams and advocate for technology’s role in improving healthcare access and outcomes.
