FORSHAW has an immediate need for a dynamic, team-oriented Assistant Controller in our Charlotte, NC office. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, this position will play a key role in managing day-to-day accounting operations and have a seat at the table as part of a growing organization. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented with strong organization skills and a sense of urgency. This individual will have a keen understanding of key business drivers and a desire to understand the industry.
As the Assistant Controller, it is expected this individual will have and maintain a working knowledge of generally acceptable accounting principles. Additionally, this individual will need to serve as a mentor to team members and be able to work collaboratively with others throughout the company.FORSHAW is a third-generation company that has experienced significant growth due to strong customer relationships and the establishment of strategically located operations to best support our customers’ needs. Key Responsibilities
- Manage the monthly financial close process ensuring revenues and costs are properly recorded and journal entries and account reconciliations are prepared and reviewed timely
- Prepare and review financial statements, prepare variance analysis to budget and prior performance, identify trends and areas for improvement
- Assist in the enhancement and delivery of management reporting packages including key operating metrics to support strategic decision making
- Coach, manage, and lead team members focusing on their professional development and growth
- Help design and implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and controls across the company
- Participate and assist in company-wide projects as needed
- Support the Director of Accounting for all audit and tax-related requests
- Perform other tasks as requested
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting; Master’s degree or higher is a plus; CPA highly desired, but not required
- Eight plus years of accounting experience; superior knowledge of accounting guidance
- Manufacturing or distribution experience preferred
- Prior experience managing accounting team and non-exempt staff
- Advanced Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamic 365 (Business Central) or similar ERP systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (documentation, communication with peers, supervisors, customers, vendors, etc.)
- Ability to make good decisions and seek counsel and guidance when appropriate
- Committed to continuous learning, team collaboration, and high-quality execution
- Demonstrated track record of initiative, accuracy and integrity when working in an office setting or remotely (hybrid schedule will be a consideration after successfully displaying professional competence)
