What Will I Be Doing as an Equipment Operator?
- Under direct supervision of Reclamation Manager operates heavy duty equipment to excavate the landfill site, transport solid waste materials, and to spread and compact layers of waste and earth cover.
- Operates heavy equipment, such as bulldozer, front-end loader, and compactor, to excavate the landfill site, transport solid waste materials, and to spread and compact layers of waste and earth cover.
- Directs incoming vehicles to the dumping area.
- Examines cargo to prohibit disposal of caustic waste or hazardous material, according to government regulations.
- Notifies Scale House Operator/Bookkeeper of any haulers delivering non-acceptable materials.
- Separates and organizes recycled material according to government regulations.
- Using excavated soil, covers layers of compacted waste material to solidify layers for future use.
- Using designated truck, spreads water over landfill area to control dust.
- Isolates demolition and construction debris to maintain within restricted areas.
- Performs preventative maintenance on equipment on a daily basis.
- Checks level of engine oil, antifreeze/water levels, wheel bolts, radiator cleanliness and air filters.
- Makes visual inspection of equipment for any leaks or wire corrosion. Maintains cleanliness of cab area.
- Understands and upholds the Griffin Brothers Companies mission statement.
- Adheres specifically to all corporate policies and procedures and applicable laws.
- Performs duties in safe and environmentally compliant manner. Complies with all safety guidelines and attire.
- Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Requirements
Do I Have What It Takes As An Equipment Operator?
Knowledge Requirements
- High school or comparable occupational training.
- Must have knowledge of techniques for safely operating heavy material moving equipment.
- Must be familiar with waste and hazardous materials that could potentially cause a problem at the site.
- Knowledge of the technical operation of heavy equipment would be helpful in making minor repairs or conducting preventative maintenance.
Experience Requirements
- Must have three - five years' experience in operating heavy material moving equipment.
- Three or more years of related reclamation, recycling and land fill machinery operations is preferred.
- Experience working with hazardous materials would be helpful.
- Tractor trailer parking in building.
- Class A CDL preferred, but not required.
