SFI is seeking a Subject Matter Expert in software development to join our team supporting the Federal Agency in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The candidate will be a key member of a team that works on software design, development, debugging, testing and implementation of software applications to manage our clients address database and associated applications in the AWS cloud environment.This role offers a flexible work arrangement, primarily remote with the understanding that occasional on-site presence may be required to support client needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of software solutions in the AWS cloud.
- Lead the analysis, data modeling, technical and functional design of software project through the software development life cycle (SDLC).
- Perform data analysis on complex data structures and provide solutions to complex problems.
- Assist in creation of implementation plans and procedures to satisfy stakeholder requirements and acceptance criteria.
- Perform quality assurance and control on developed software.
- Support Application and Database related problems and deployments.
- Design, develop, enhance, debug, and implement cloud application software that could include some or all the following:
Front end applications utilizing JavaScript FrameworkBackend software that accesses/modifies a PostgreSQL databaseCloud Native microservices, lambda functions, API Gateway
- Research, test, build, and coordinate the conversion and/or integration of new products based on client requirements.
- Resolves problems with software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
- Develop and design reports as requested by the customer.
- Prepare presentations highlighting solutions and application road maps.
- Work with the Office of Information Security to ensure that software components meet the information security requirements.
- Perform feasibility analysis on potential future projects to management.
- Assist in the evaluation and recommendation of application software packages, application integration and testing tools.
- Effective verbal and written communication with senior-level management and leadership on the customer side.
- Willingness to learn new development tools and programming languages as needed.
- Willingness to provide support and guidance to less experienced members of the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or equivalent.
- 10 years’ experience in software development projects.
- 3+ Experience with AWS cloud services, containerization technologies and orchestration tools.
- 3+ years’ experience with relational databases, SQL, and/or PostgreSQL.
- 3+ years’ experience building backend services and/or Web APIs.
- 3+ years' experience in Python programming
- Experience in loading, manipulating, extracting, and viewing data in databases.
- Strong experience with Cloud microservices, AWS serverless products such as Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, and queuing/messaging services.
- Highly analytical, possessing critical and creative thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with team and customers.
- Experience working with teams to develop innovative Cloud-centric scalable enterprise custom applications.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent software development projects simultaneously.
- Ability to adapt to and work within technical constraints and limitations, such as low-privilege environments.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Git version control systems.
- Knowledge of/experience using Agile/Scrum methodology.
- Knowledge of/experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of/experience with automated software testing frameworks and practices.
- Programming experience with React JS framework.
- Programming experience with Java.
- Experience using Linux Terminals and BASH scripting.
Certifications
- AWS Certified Solution Architect or comparable is desirable.

Other Information
- The salary for this position is $120,000 - $170,000 annually
