Job Summary:
This position involves the performance molecular genetics assays and general
laboratory maintenance across multiple pipelines. The ideal candidate is experienced inlaboratory molecular biology techniques and is capable of quickly learning and understandingmultiple different workflows across teams, with the ability to perform lab procedures efficientlyand accurately.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Conducts molecular genetic assays within the laboratory using standard molecularbiology techniques• Trains on multiple pipelines for the capability to provide coverage for different teams inthe event of absences or workflow surges• Initial primary workflow will be conducting assays using the Illumina Microarrayplatform, including whole genome amplification, fragmentation, precipitation,hybridization, and staining• Additional techniques learned may include the following: DNA / RNA extractionprocedures (automated and manual); polymerase chain reaction (PCR), capillaryelectrophoresis and STR analysis for paternity testing; droplet digital PCR for theTryptase assay; Sanger Sequencing; and mass spectrometry (Agena MassArray platform)for pharmacogenomics and nutrigenomics assays, as well as some Next GenerationSequencing protocols• Operates and assists with maintenance of laboratory instruments, including liquidhandlers; centrifuges; Applied Biosystems 3730XL Capillary Electrophoresis instruments;Bio-Rad QX-200 Droplet Digital PCR instruments; thermocyclers; etc.• Understands and ensures compliance with quality standards issued by regulatory bodiesfor clinical testing (CLIA, CAP, NYSDOH, etc.)• Assists with preparation of reagent stocks and helps monitor supply inventories• Maintains records of laboratory work and sample tracking• Follows all laboratory procedures and policies, including quality control and qualitysystem activities, and document appropriately all records, deviations, and correctiveactions as required• Assists with troubleshooting issues with assays, equipment, or procedures
Secondary Responsibilities:
• Assists with Research and Development projects as neededRequirements
Required Qualifications:
• 4- year Bachelor degree or higher a Biological Science or related field• Minimum of 2 years previous relevant laboratory experience with molecular geneticsassays and techniques• High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and precision• Computer literacy of Microsoft Word and Excel• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing
Preferred Qualifications:
• MB(ASCP) Certification
Schedule:
• Must be flexible to cover various shifts between 6 AM and 6 PM.• The initial training will be scheduled Monday through Friday, from 6 AM to 2 PM.
