The Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for creating engaging and impactful online learning experiences for administrators, faculty, staff, students, and volunteers at colleges, universities, and K-12 schools on risk management, insurance, and liability topics. They will manage multiple concurrent and interdependent tasks and work cross-functionally with various stakeholders. They should have the ability to translate complex subject-matter material into easy-to-understand training and help drive innovation.

The Senior Instructional Designer leads projects through the design lifecycle and delivers professionally written and developed learning solutions for varying audience types.

Responsibilities:


  • Lead projects through the design lifecycle from scoping, research and analysis, design, development, QA, to launch. Provide clear timelines through all phases, communicating with stakeholders and management, and delivering the course to the LMS team.
  • Define the learning objectives, modalities, and expectations in the planning, design, and authoring of courses and related training materials on risk management, insurance, and liability topics.
  • Help identify and maintain relationships with a variety of subject matter experts, both external and internal.
  • Manage program deliverables within budgetary, resource, and scheduling requirements against defined project milestones and deadlines.
  • Ensure courses meet WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards by following established course development practices.
  • Use compelling storytelling, dialogue, and interactivity to create powerful and engaging learning. Create engaging interactivities and exercises.
  • Serve as a mentor to learning design peers and colleagues.

Requirements:


  • Graduate degree with at least ten (10) years of experience writing and designing engaging, interactive, media-rich, self-paced online courses for professional development or educational purposes
  • At least ten (10) years of demonstrated experience with digital content development tools (Articulate Storyline, Captivate, etc.)
  • Familiarity or experience with media development software (such as Adobe Premiere, Audition, and Photoshop), artificial intelligence tools (such as ChatGPT or Copilot), and SCORM/xAPI is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills, including a focus on storytelling and scenario construction, as well as the ability to break complex topics down into simple, concise, and engaging learning that enhances retention and motivates change
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of instructional design techniques and theory
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team with minimal coaching or supervision

The below annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.Salary Range$100,000—$130,000 USD

  • 401(k) — UE makes a 3% safe harbor non-elective contribution beginning the first of the month after date of hire; these funds are vested immediately. After one year of service, employees receive a 7% profit sharing non-elective contribution, as well as become eligible for a matched contribution of 25% of the first 5% employee deferral. Employees can make pre-tax contributions or taxed (Roth) salary reductions. Catch-up contributions for employees 50 years old and over. Employer contributions are fully vested three years from eligibility date.
  • Life Insurance — UE pays for Basic Life Insurance, and employees have the option to apply for additional Voluntary coverage.
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance — We offer coverage in the event employees are unable to work for a period of time.
  • For the first two years of employment, employees accrue PTO at 24 days per year. At the beginning of the third year of service, employees accrue 30 days per year of PTO.
  • 11 paid holidays annually including Juneteenth and an employee choice floating holiday
  • Bonus eligibility is based on salary earned and performance for the year.
  • Hybrid environment - employees are typically in the office 2-3 days per week after the initial training period.
