Network and Data Center Engineer


Position Overview:


We're seeking a proactive Network and Data Center Engineer who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys hands-on technical work. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in network operations and hardware installation, alongside the flexibility to manage physical infrastructure tasks in our disaster recovery data center in Chicago. 

Key Responsibilities:


  • Perform installation and configuration of servers, NICs, hard drives, and related hardware components in data centers.

  • Configure network ports, troubleshoot network issues, and maintain optimal network operations.

  • Administer and manage firewall, including Cisco and Fortinet.

  • Conduct regular documentation of system configurations, maintenance tasks, and infrastructure changes using software tools. 

  • Provide timely response to issues during on-call rotations, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

  • Collaborate effectively within the IT team, contributing proactively to group projects and discussions.

  • Be comfortable navigating network Configuration-Line-Interface (Cisco/Arista/FortiOS) and perform basic configuration or troubleshooting tasks.

  • Be able to troubleshoot in real time network or firewall issues. 

  • Understanding of OSI layers 1-7. 

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in network engineering and data center operations.

  • Hands-on experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting server and network hardware.

  • Proficiency with Cisco and Fortinet firewalls, including policy configuration, monitoring, and maintenance.

  • Basic experience or familiarity with Cisco ISE.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to lift and transport equipment up to 50 pounds.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; must be articulate and professional.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changing priorities.

  • Willingness to travel periodically to data center sites and work occasional evening hours.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, NSE4 or related certifications.

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).

  • Exposure to automation and scripting (Python, Ansible, etc.).

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting annual base pay is between $150,000 and $225,000 for this Chicago-based position. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The annual base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role is eligible for bonus and equity.
