Senior Backend Engineer, Platform Engineering

We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Platform Engineering group!

Qualifications:


  • 7+ years of experience in backend engineering, with a strong grasp of system design and architecture.
  • Proven experience working in microservices environments and managing production-grade, cloud-based systems.
  • Ability to balance pragmatism with engineering excellence in high-impact, cross-team projects.
  • Passion for technology, learning, and stepping out of your comfort zone.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset—you’ll be working with many teams and stakeholders.

Bonus Points:


  • Experience with serverless architectures, especially AWS Lambda.
  • Hands-on experience with TypeScript in backend systems.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like CloudFormation or CDK.
  • A track record of improving developer workflows or leading devex initiatives.

A day in the life and how you’ll make an impact:


We’re a team within the Platform Engineering group, focused on building the foundations that power both Melio’s product and developer experience. Our work spans two main areas: core services like authentication, file management, and a communication platform used to reach Melio users and partners; and developer experience, where we define how services are built and run - from infrastructure standards and CI/CD to deployment and observability.
We collaborate closely with all R&D teams and the architecture group, with broad influence and visibility across the company. It’s an environment where strong engineers can lead, shape decisions, and make a lasting impact on how engineering is done.

  • You’ll work side-by-side with experienced engineers to design and evolve core infrastructure and backend services that impact the entire R&D org.
  • You’ll collaborate with other teams to answer questions, guide best practices, and help engineers get unstuck - earning trust as a go-to person for platform expertise.
  • You’ll participate in thoughtful technical discussions, helping raise the bar for engineering quality across the board.
  • You’ll have the freedom to innovate, take risks, and influence tech decisions with a long-term, org-wide mindset.
