Job Overview:
We are seeking a talented and motivated Legal Associate to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to support a high-growth AI company with a strong international presence and blue-chip clients.The ideal candidate will have:
- 3-5 years of experience in an international law firm or in an equivalent role
- Experience working for or advising startups is valued
- Excellent commercial contracting skills and strong commercial acumen.
- Fluency in English (required), paired with native-level proficiency in at least one Asian language (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, etc.) or Arabic.
- A good working knowledge of Hong Kong companies law is essential.
- Familiarity with US and Cayman corporate law is also desirable.
- The role will be based out of our Hong Kong office and work closely with the CEO, Board and CRO
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support for Bilby’s operations across the Middle East, ASEAN, Hong Kong, and the Americas, with a focus on contracts, compliance, governance, and IP protection.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements, including licensing deals, vendor contracts, NDAs, and partnership agreements.
- Advise on regional regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with local laws in diverse jurisdictions.
- Collaborate with internal teams to safeguard and manage Bilby’s IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
- Liaise with external counsel, company secretary, auditors, shareholders and other stakeholders in multiple regions as needed.
- Report to the board on any legal risk, reporting or regulatory obligations.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of legal experience in a law firm, in-house legal team, or equivalent setting.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) and native-level proficiency in at least one Asian language (e.g., Mandarin, Bahasa Indonesia, Thai, Vietnamese, etc.) or Arabic.
- Strong understanding of contract law, IP law, and international business regulations; experience in technology or AI sectors is a plus.
- Exceptional drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to Bilby’s regional offices or other locations as required.
- Proactive, adaptable, and eager to contribute to a fast-paced, innovative startup environment.
