a.i. solutions is seeking a highly motivated Aerospace Engineer to join our Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Support 3 (ELVIS3) team supporting NASA Launch Services Program (LSP) at Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB). Our selected candidate will maintain a knowledge base to ensure technical assessment of launch vehicle issues and anomalies that arise and maintain expertise in flight control engineering, electrical engineering, avionics engineering, RF and telemetry engineering, pneumatics engineering, mechanical engineering, structures engineering, and propulsion engineering. The candidate must be able to work independently and represent the program at meetings and working groups with government and associate contractors. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission of always meeting customer requirements and usually exceeding their expectations.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
- Provide LSP VSFB Vehicle System and Resident Office engineering tasks as directed by NASA, spacecraft customer, and LSP/ELVIS management.
- Act as a technical liaison between the VSFB field sites and KSC engineering.
- Provide direct engineering inputs to NASA engineering and quality assurance, including taking digital photos of problem areas and of vehicle processing progress.
- Responsible to assess ground and flight vehicle system engineering items throughout the lifecycle for NASA LSP sponsored missions, fleet activities, reviews, and assessments, as required.
- Maintain technical expertise in system engineering disciplines and sub-disciplines, that include, but are not limited to the following: structures, composite materials, mechanical separation, pneumatic, hydraulic, liquid propulsion, solid propulsion, ordnance, mechanical ground, fluids ground and contamination control.
- Provide onsite representation at the NASA Commercial Launch Provider’s (CLP) Resident Offices and maintain insight into the CLP fleet and maintain a knowledge base to ensure technical assessment of vehicle issues/anomalies that arise and in CLP facilities.
- Develop and maintain insight into the CLP engineering and production through daily contact with peers throughout the CLP organization.
- Participate in reviews and meetings at the CLP location.
- Participate in selected reviews and activities at other locations (e.g., MIWG, Spacecraft-to-Vehicle Fit Check, CLP supplier product reviews).
- Resident office personnel shall participate in the NASA-led Launch Campaigns by traveling to launch site as part of the engineering launch team or providing support to the engineering launch team from the resident office.
- Provide technical assessments of the test activity at the CLP and supplier locations. Participate in Test Readiness Reviews, observe testing and report issues and/or results.
- Perform independent investigations at the CLP facilities to identify and report risks to NASA LSP. Investigations shall include but not be limited to manufacturing and/or design trend studies, facility walk downs, and hardware walk downs.
- Develop, submit, and status purchase requests to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Ensure projects and tasks in the LSP SharePoint Management System are maintained to provide accurate status to NASA, spacecraft customers, and management.
Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship
- BA/BS in engineering and/or proven directly relevant work experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance and a valid California Driver’s License.
- Ability to relate to customers in a professional manner.
- Proven ability working in a team environment with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven organizational and project management skills with the ability to multi-task.

- Must be able to frequently stand, sit, and walk short distances.
- Must be able to lift, carry and install equipment (as identified in Primary Duties and Responsibilities).
- Must be able to support required shift work and overtime.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision in the performance of all duties and responsibilities.
- Must be able to travel as required for operational and mission requirements.
