Job Responsibilities 


As a Production Strategy & Engineering Intern at Vorbeck, you will work closely with the production and operations teams to help develop and implement a manufacturing facility in Grand Forks. This facility will produce PFAS-free firefighting foams. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to various engineering tasks, such as process scale-up, quality control, risk management, and technology evaluation.

  • Production Strategy Support: Assist in developing and executing production strategies that align with the company's overall goals and objectives. Support roadmap creation and performance tracking.
  • Mechanical System Design & Development: Assist in the design and optimization of mechanical systems for production processes

  • Process Scale-Up & Development: Aid in the research, design, and implementation of new and scaled-up production processes. Help perform process simulations, create Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), and assist with process documentation (SOPs, operating instructions).
  • Project Management Assistance: Support project managers in overseeing multiple projects by helping define project scopes, timelines, and deliverables. Track project progress and assist in ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Team Collaboration & Support: Work with engineers and operations teams to provide input and insights into ongoing projects.
  • Quality Control: Help implement quality control procedures and standards for production. Participate in inspections and ensure product quality compliance.
  • Risk Management Support: Help identify and assess potential technical risks and challenges, assisting in developing mitigation strategies to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Safety & Compliance: Participate in maintaining a safe and compliant operating environment. Support in ensuring all production processes meet industry and regulatory standards.

Qualifications


Education


  • Junior or Senior obtaining their bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. A Masters degree would be an advantage. 
  • You must be enrolled at the University of North Dakota. Graduates of Spring 2025 are eligible to apply.

Preferred Experience or Interest:


  • Previous exposure to manufacturing or process engineering, or a strong interest in learning how production systems work.
  • Curiosity about new technologies and methods in production and process optimization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Exposure to quality control methods or an eagerness to learn how to ensure product standards.
  • Previous experience with CAD software or an interest in design and engineering processes.

Skills and Abilities


  • Strong work ethic and ability to work well individually and as part of a fast-paced team.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Well-organized with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, particularly in the commercial, aerospace, government, and defense sectors, is a plus.
  • Competent foundation in mathematics and physics, applied to solve engineering and production challenges.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic approach to taking on new challenges
  • Innovative mindset
