The Mechanical Engineering Research Co-op will work directly as a member of our R&D team, applying their mechanical expertise to implement truly novel solutions to solve difficult problems. They will work closely with the other engineering disciplines to ensure a cohesive system design. Responsibilities will focus on hardware selection, robot gripper design, and prototyping electro-mechanical systems.
This role will be onsite at the Bedford, MA office.This position will run from approximately May - September 2025 (dates flexible).Functions

- Design and release components and systems using SolidWorks
- Perform test and verification of prototype systems.
- Bring prototype solutions to life with rapid prototyping tools including 3D printer, laser cutter, mill, etc.
Qualifications
- Actively pursuing a bachelors, masters, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or related field
- Experience with electrostatics and PhD level of understanding of gripper design
- Experience with Solidworks (basic principles of design, sheet metal, FEA, etc.)
- Experience prototyping and using tools such as laser cutters, 3D printers, mills, lathes, etc.
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be curious, eager, open to learning, and independent
- Ability to spec motors, sensors, and off-the-shelf parts
- Strong grasp of mechanical systems and mechanisms
- DFM experience within sheet metal, weldments, machined parts
