DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position is responsible for developing, training (formal and Hands-on), mentoring, monitoring and reporting on the implementation and adaptation of HSE initiatives at Talos Energy including:

  • Aid and champion a world class HSE culture for all employees, contractors and subcontractors
  • Assist offshore personnel in identifying potential hazards and the appropriate controls to reduce risk to an acceptable level
  • Promote the use of Stop Work Authority, share lessons learned when it is used and reinforce use in regular communications/meetings
  • Lend support to Offshore Operations in preparation for BSEE inspections in an effort to create a totally empowered workforce that is always prepared for inspections with or without HSE present.
  • Perform audits/inspections to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Assist in the reporting, investigation of incidents including near misses and at-risk observations as well as assisting in the tracking to closure of open items resulting from the investigations
  • Assist in the development internal HSE policies and strategies
  • Report on HSE statistics
  • Provide dedicated HSE support and subject-matter experts during “major work” – drilling/workover operations, major construction operations (including heavy lifts) and major well work.
  • Ensure that safety related equipment is installed correctly and is operating as intended
  • Provide health and safety meetings and training courses for employees
  • Keep current on applicable HSE legislation and provide support to Operations so they understand their obligations
  • Facilitate drills/exercises to assess adequacy of existing processes and procedures. Provide training to offshore employees and contractors on oil spill response plans and emergency procedures. Verify understanding of circumstances that require reporting to the National Response Center.
  • Attend and participate in well work “spud meetings” to pre-job identify safety/compliance issues to address simultaneous operational risks proactively.
  • Choosing appropriate methods and personal skills so as to educate and mentor personnel about HSE programs
  • Conduct HSE needs assessment and identifying skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed
  • Identifying HSE mentoring and training needs by evaluating strengths and weaknesses of personnel
  • Translating HSE requirements into learning/teaching opportunities that will groom employees for safe and efficient operations
  • Acclimating new hires to the business and conduct orientation sessions
  • Delivering training courses in areas of expertise
  • Assess effectiveness of HSE Programs to ensure incorporation of taught skills and techniques into employees work place behavior

KEY INTERFACES:

  • Internal: all employees, esp. field based personnel, Operations, Engineering, etc.
  • External: Contractors, Labor Providers, state and federal Regulators (BSEE, LADEQ, USCG, etc.), clients, peer groups, etc.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:


  • HS Diploma or the equivalent GED
  • BA or BS degree in Science or related field from accredited university highly desirable
  • Training and/or certifications in related HSE topics such as root cause analysis, emergency response, hazard identification/safety cases, etc. highly desirable
  • US Passport Holder or equivalent and US Driver’s License with clean driving record
  • Position subjected to background checks as well as participation in company drug and alcohol testing program
  • Possess or obtain a IADC Rig Pass Certification or equivalent to travel offshore to conduct training
  • Able to successfully pass Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET)

EXPERTISE, QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Proven working experience in working with filed operations personnel in offshore environments
  • Extensive knowledge in HSE programs and compliance issues
  • Proven ability to complete full program development cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate)
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Sound decision making and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills coupled with the ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


Offshore HSE advisors must be able to consistently meet the following physical requirements for the duration of a shift (12-16 hours per day). The schedule for this position is 14 days on / 14 days off.

  • Ability to remain feet in an upright position at a workstation on hard/uneven surfaces (concrete/grating/steel) without moving about.
  • Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time and have use of arms and hands in repetitive motion.
  • Ability to move freely on offshore oil rigs, including stairs and ladders
  • Ability to move about on foot on hard/uneven surfaces (concrete/grating/steel).
  • Ability to raise or lower 50 lbs., from floor to waist, from one level to another.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally without limitation, including airplanes, helicopters and boats. Must be able to transfer from boats to landing areas of the platforms during moderate to heavy seas via swing rope.
  • Ability to bend the spine downward and forward at the waist.  Ability to extend the hands and arms in any direction.
  • Ability to hold, grasp and turn both hands with significant weight or resistance.
  • Ability to move equipment from one workstation to another.
  • Ability to bend the legs at the knees to come to a rest.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures, adverse weather conditions, exposure to the elements, exposure to elevated noise/vibration and work in close quarters while wearing protective equipment and clothing.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of respiratory protection equipment.
