The Manager, Global Material Cost Management, will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, and support to a global team for cost reduction initiatives including, but not limited, vetting, executing, and validating potential cost savings opportunities, lead cross-functional coordination, develop business cases, and reporting.

This position is new, driven by growth, and will report to the Vice President, Global Purchasing and is based at our Headquarters in Farmington Hills, Michigan. Job Description: Manager, Global Material Cost Management

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead strategic projects cross-functionally with global Purchasing, Program Management, Sales, Quality, and global manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop and manage project schedules and budget allocation
  • Monitor status of projects and regularly report to top management
  • Understand customer and supplier validation, demand, and capabilities requirements necessary to execute unique projects.  
  • Drive operational/ process efficiency working in close collaboration with key stakeholders and local management
  • Identify and mitigate project risks to ensure on-time delivery
  • Drive efficiency in project planning, execution, processes modifications
  • Ensure structured documentation and reporting
  • Support the procurement team through the utilization of cost estimation tools to analyze material purchase costs for fact-based supplier engagement and negotiations
  • Supports competitor supply base benchmarking and other activities to position the organization for growth
  • Supports internal and external VAVE activities, working in conjunction with departmental teams, and helps identify cost opportunities through supplier discussions and/or other market intelligence
  • Collaborates globally with other Global Purchasing team members and colleagues

Required Skills


  • Proven leadership, problem-solving and communication skills 
  • Can focus on details and technicalities while simultaneously retaining a comprehensive vision of the big picture
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with persuasive attitude
  • Strong adherence to timelines with ability to perform under pressure
  • Financial acumen of company P&L/balance sheets
  • Proficiency in project management tools (MS Projector similar).
  • Knowledgeable in APQP, PPAP, R&R, validation testing and program launches 
  • Adept at change management
  • Ability to get work done at all levels in an organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and analytical and leadership skills 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office’s Excel, Project, SharePoint, PowerBi, Word, and PowerPoint 
  • Approximately 5-10% global travel 

Desired Experience and Education


  • Minimum five (5) years purchasing, program management, or engineering experience, preferably in the automotive industry
  • Strong project management experience while working with stakeholders in multiple functions
  • Must have experience handling complex projects needing stakeholder approvals
  • Experience with automotive components purchasing and negotiation
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Finance, Accounting, or Engineering, or equivalent experience required
