Senior Animal Behaviorist

OBJECTIVE:
The Senior Animal Behaviorist oversees the Department of Animal Behavior and Enrichment. They perform required behavioral/enrichment/compatibility assessments at a designated facility and oversee these processes across all BIOQUAL facilities. They maintain behavioral database information, monthly social housing reports, quarterly behavioral assessments and other documents as needed/requested.QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:•    4 year Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Primatology, Anthropology, Psychology, etc).•    Experience with animals, preferably non-human primates.•    AALAS certification.•    Experience with supervision of staff.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•    Manage/oversee the Department of Animal Behavior and Enrichment.•    Be able to perform/oversee all Animal Behaviorist and Enrichment Technician duties.•    Adhere to and author the BEEP (BIOQUAL Behavioral and Environmental Enhancement Plan), updating with changes to the program and/or federal regulations.•    Perform requested/required behavior/enrichment assessments on NHPs, including all USDA covered species as outlined in the BEEP.•    Supply reports as needed to the IACUC, USDA, AAALAC, OLAW, clients, etc.•    Order, sanitize & fill, monitor stock & proper use of, and determine new/entertaining enrichment.•    Oversee and maintain department budget.•    Meet regularly with veterinary staff & investigators about behavior/enrichment issues/concerns.•    Determine if changing room setups may decrease atypical/abnormal behaviors and increase species-typical behaviors, monitoring the improvement of abnormal/atypical behaviors of NHPs.•    Create/maintain Abnormal Behavior Management Plans (ABMP).•    Perform temperament assessments on NHPs to determine compatible social partners.•    Introduce and monitor NHPs deemed compatible to form social pairs.•    Maintain social housing, behavioral assessment, USDA covered species, & any other databases.•    Create/perform annual trainings regarding animal behavior, training, interaction, & enrichment.•    Create behavioral studies to help increase the understanding of various aspects of NHPs and other animals in captivity, to be directly applied to the animals housed at BIOQUAL, Inc.•    Perform other duties as assigned.
