About the Role
Handshake is launching a first-of-its-kind effort to train and enable a network of PhD researchers, subject matter experts, and domain leaders to shape the future of human-centered AI. We are looking for a Learning & Content Designer to develop and implement introductory training programs for our AI Fellows. These programs will enable them to use their academic knowledge practically by carrying out research and assessing models.You’ll blend curriculum design, content strategy, and video production to create highly engaging, scalable training programs.
Your work will directly accelerate our Fellows' contributions to safe, mindful, and human-literate AI systems.This role is located in San Francisco, right off the Montgomery BART station, and is required in-office.
What You’ll Do
- Design & Deliver Learning Experiences: Develop a high-quality curriculum and multimedia learning modules for AI Fellows, guiding them through research, evaluation, and applied data work.
- Produce Compelling Content: Write scripts and produce short-form videos that make complex ideas clear, engaging, and memorable.
- Collaborate with Experts: Partner closely with PhDs, researchers, and AI practitioners to ensure content is precise, functional, and aligned to real-world application.
- Own Content Voice & Strategy: Shape the tone, style, and delivery of all educational content to align with Handshake’s mission and audience.
- Support Fellow Success: Join forces with community and operations teams to support Fellows' onboarding, participation, and progression through the program.
What You Bring
- 3+ years in instructional design, educational content creation, or learning experience development — ideally in technical, research, or AI-focused settings.
- Experience designing training programs related to AI concepts, research methods, or applied model evaluation.
- Familiarity with AI model validation, data labeling, or human-in-the-loop evaluation techniques.
- Proven ability to work with AI researchers, engineers, or project leads to translate technical concepts into digestible learning content.
- Strong writing, storytelling, and video editing skills, especially for educational or training media.
- Skilled in tools like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, or equivalent video editing platforms.
- Experience producing structured learning journeys and curriculum from scratch.
- Comfortable in high-velocity, early-stage environments; you thrive working cross-functionally and wearing many hats.
