American Battery Solutions is now hiring a Project Management Intern this summer for a 12-week assignment in Lake Orion, MI.
Job Summary:
The Project Management (PM) Intern will play a crucial role in coordinating the phased development of solutions supporting battery pack systems. This position involves interfacing with various cross-functional teams, including design engineering, systems engineering, purchasing, prototype and production manufacturing, and test & validation teams. The intern will be responsible for developing and executing system improvement initiatives, integrating program status updates, revamping automation for key process indicators, and maintaining program data.
Additionally, the intern will support Program Managers in driving the execution of specific deliverables and complete a 12-week project presentation at the end of the internship.
Responsibilities:
- Learn and develop collateral in Smartsheet (ABS project planning/tracking/reporting tool).
- Execute a system improvement initiative that supports Program Management of our projects.
- Integrate program status 1-pagers from all Departments to feed into PDT (Product Development Team) meetings in Smartsheet to eliminate redundant reporting. Measure effectiveness of 1-pager process, develop tracker assessing each department's completion and quality, and document procedure and rollout/train.
- Revamp automation for KPIs (Key Process Indicators or metrics) in Smartsheet -- for action items, change requests, and red programs. Work with PM & Team to redefine most valuable pareto categories and how to link actions into KPI sheet. Document procedure and rollout/train.
- Revamp BOM (Bill Of Material) cost tracker in Smartsheet for core product variants and shared materials. Work with Smartsheet & Plex (finance system) experts to define a solution for better linking and simpler input & management by purchasing and improving BOM cost tracking reports for PM dashboards.
- Revamp overall Program cost tracking tool. Participate with PM & Finance in development of new cost model required for 2025. Implement updates based on new cost categories that match in Smartsheet and Plex for streamlined reporting and data tracking.
- Maintain program data such as schedule, action items, deliverables, engineering changes, cost tracking, and associated reports, metrics, and project dashboards.
- Support Program Managers in driving execution of specific assigned deliverables from cross-functional Team members required for product launch.
- Complete a 12-week project presentation at the end of internship.
- Report the progress of tasks on a regular basis.

Position Qualifications:
- Undergraduate (Sophomore or higher) student working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or other relevant degree.
- Must be able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week up to a maximum of 40 hours per week.
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA required to enter the program.
- Must be actively enrolled in school.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
