About the Position:


OneEnergy is seeking a Land Stewardship Intern to work with our Midwest team on solar energy portfolios across Wisconsin and Minnesota. The Land Stewardship Intern is a full-time summer position that will report to the Land Stewardship Manager and is based out of our Madison, WI office. They will work closely with vegetation management contractors and the Delivery and Operations teams to support the management of high quality vegetation, including sheep pasture and native prairie, within OneEnergy's solar projects.

There will also be opportunities to support planning future dual-use solar projects, such as grazing and crop production within solar arrays.

Responsibilities:


  • Monitor vegetation establishment at solar project sites throughout Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota and record observations using ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Identify invasive or noxious weed species and monitor
  • Evaluate plant communities within solar arrays using presence-absence surveys and estimate percent cover of key species.
  • Assess quality of pollinator habitat by recording which species are in
  • Review Vegetation Management Reports submitted by
  • Provide management recommendations based on field observations and reports.
  • Photograph vegetation to document establishment

Requirements:


  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Restoration Ecology, Conservation, Ecology, Botany, or a related field. 
  • Plant identification experience and familiarity with common native prairie plants and noxious or invasive weed species in the Midwest.

  • Ability to travel and access sites of varying terrain across Wisconsin and Minnesota. Position requires travel up to 75% of working Must carry an active driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Excellent, professional written and verbal communication, as well as interpersonal

  • Strong organizational skills resulting in the ability to track vegetation observations across multiple projects.
  • A demonstrated ability with MS Office, MS Windows and project tracking software is
  • Hands-on construction experience and a practical understanding about the general construction and electrical trades.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of integrity and organizational capacity to manage multiple projects.
