Manager, API Development

The API Manager is responsible for the strategy, design, implementation, and management of the company's API ecosystem. This role involves overseeing the development, maintenance, and documentation of APIs, ensuring they meet the needs of the business. The API Manager will lead a team of developers, and work closely with cross-functional teams and external partners, to deliver high-quality API solutions that drive business growth and enhance customer experience.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead a team developers in delivering large and complex API and integration solutions.
  • Develop and execute the API strategy aligned with the company’s business objectives.
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of APIs.
  • Ensure APIs are designed to be scalable, secure, and easy to use.
  • Collaborate with developers to create and maintain API documentation.
  • Implement API management platforms and tools to monitor, manage, and secure APIs.
  • Establish and enforce API governance policies, including versioning, security, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver API solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams and external partners.
  • Conduct training and workshops to educate teams on API best practices and usage.
  • Monitor API performance, usage, and reliability.
  • Analyze API metrics and usage data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Optimize APIs for performance, scalability, and security.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in API development and management.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance the API ecosystem.

Education & Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in API development and management.
  • Proven experience with API management platforms such as Azure API Management (preferred), AWS API Gateway, or Mulesoft.
  • Experience in designing and implementing RESTful and SOAP APIs.
  • Proficiency in .NET and C# is required; other languages such as Ruby on Rails, Python, or Java is preferred.
  • Experience with cloud services and infrastructure (Azure preferred).
  • Experience integrating with and maintaining connections with third-party libraries, SDKs, Webhooks, and APIs.
  • Experience writing and running test suites with CI/CD, including test automation, unit test level TDD, and SAST/DAST.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry, managing the secure transit and storage of sensitive data.
  • Experience building financial solutions such as trading platforms, digital wallets, and payment solutions is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


  • Strong understanding of API security, including OAuth, JWT, and other authentication mechanisms.
  • Working knowledge of SDLC methodologies with a focus on Agile and Scrum.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD, Docker, Azure Kubernetes Services).
  • Adaptability to work within constraints of existing technology stack, while leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills, both within and across teams.
  • Excellent communications skills.

Business Travel


  • Position requires minimal to no travel.

Pay and Benefits


The typical starting salary range for this position is between $133,801-$167,251 per year. Coinstar utilizes geographically based pay ranges, within the United States, which allows us to pay competitively and consistently based on location. Within the range for the applicable geographic area, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share the salary range specific to your location. Employees in this position have the potential to increase their base salary up to $202,702 per year, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing demonstrated and continuous performance in the role.

Physical Requirements


Sedentary work involves remaining in a stationary position most of the time in front of a computer, using a keyboard, mouse and telephone. Regularly operate a computer and other office equipment. Occasionally move about the work site to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.  Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or regularly move objects.
