cFocus Software is seeking an experienced
Computer Network Support Specialist to provide ongoing support, maintenance, and troubleshooting for critical network systems, including Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and Internet systems. With over 8 years of experience, the ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing, testing, troubleshooting, and evaluating network systems to ensure they operate efficiently and securely. This role plays a critical part in minimizing downtime and ensuring the availability of DHS’s network infrastructure for national security operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Network Analysis and Troubleshooting:
- Analyze and evaluate the performance of existing network systems (LAN, WAN, and Internet) to ensure optimal functionality.
- Troubleshoot network issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions to restore functionality with minimal disruption to DHS operations.
- Perform network testing to assess system health and identify potential improvements or areas of concern.
- Monitor network traffic and system performance to detect anomalies and ensure the network is functioning at peak efficiency.
- Network Maintenance and Support:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as updates, patches, and backups, to ensure network systems operate correctly and securely.
- Ensure that all network hardware and software components are up-to-date and compliant with DHS security policies and industry standards.
- Provide support for network system upgrades and expansion, ensuring minimal impact on ongoing operations.
- Respond to network issues, service outages, or disruptions promptly, coordinating with internal teams to restore normal operations.
- Network Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, troubleshooting steps, maintenance logs, and system performance reports.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on network performance, incidents, and troubleshooting efforts to senior management and technical teams.
- Document any changes or improvements to network systems, ensuring that all modifications are recorded for compliance and future reference.
- Collaboration with IT Teams:
- Work closely with system administrators, network engineers, and security personnel to ensure networks are fully integrated into the broader DHS IT infrastructure.
- Collaborate with teams to plan and implement network system upgrades, expansions, and integrations while ensuring minimal service disruption.
- Provide technical assistance to other departments or units as needed to support their network needs.
- Security and Compliance:
- Assist in the implementation of security measures for network systems to ensure compliance with DHS security protocols, including intrusion detection/prevention, firewalls, and secure VPN configurations.
- Follow best practices for network security to protect sensitive data and systems from unauthorized access, cyberattacks, or other vulnerabilities.
- Monitor network security incidents and assist in the investigation and resolution of security breaches.
- User Support and Training:
- Provide technical support to end-users, assisting with network connectivity, access issues, and troubleshooting.
- Offer guidance and training on best practices for network usage and security to DHS staff, ensuring they understand how to safely and efficiently use the network infrastructure.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
- Experience:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in supporting, maintaining, and troubleshooting network systems, including LAN, WAN, and Internet systems.
- Proven experience with network analysis, testing, and troubleshooting methodologies for both hardware and software components.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc.) and common network technologies (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
- Experience in network monitoring, management, and security practices, including intrusion detection/prevention systems, firewalls, and secure VPNs.
- Familiarity with enterprise-level network management tools and software.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve network issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to provide clear explanations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the security and efficiency of network systems.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher.
- CompTIA Network+ certification or similar networking certification.
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified Network Security Specialist (CNSS).
- ITIL Foundation or other relevant IT service management certifications.
Security Clearance:
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, candidates must possess or be able to obtain the required security clearance.
