Assure that PotlatchDeltic St Maries Complex meets and complies with all Federal, Tribal, State, and Local environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements as well as Corporate and site Environmental, Health, and Safety policies. Participate in all below listed Key Activities. Location of responsibilities includes St. Maries Complex, Lumber Drying Division, and Clarkia Landing. The position responsibility also includes special assignments and assistance at other Wood Products Division sites. This position supervises one Environmental Coordinator.
The salary range for this position is $82,761.00-$137,935.00.
This position is bonus eligible with a target value of 10% of salary.
Compliance
- Ensure all periodic sampling, testing, monitoring, and inspections related to compliance activities are completed at required intervals and within required timelines.
- Prepare, execute, and enter required regulatory data / reports and effectively interface with federal, state, Tribal, and local agencies.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental permitted activities within the complex and its related areas. Initiate corrective action as needed.
- Ensure compliance with various permit monitoring and recordkeeping requirements. Keep the compliance calendar current and distribute as required.
- Obtain, develop, or renew from regulatory agencies all necessary permits for environmental compliance.
- Manage the assigned areas and capital projects in compliance with Federal, State and Tribal laws and regulations. Facilitate capital project environmental reviews and ensure compliance upon project completion and operation.
Administrative
- Professionally maintain all facility environmental files both electronically and hard copy.
- Ensure recordkeeping requirements are met for all permitted activities.
- Provide requested and required site environmental data to agencies and legal counsel.
- Develop environmental budgets annually.
Site Environmental Resource
- Remain current on Federal, State, and Tribal environmental rules and regulation, changes, requirements, trends, and developments.
- Monitor all activities that impact site complex air, water and waste streams.
- Communicate environmental issues to the Complex Manager and Division Environmental Staff as appropriate. Confer with department managers regarding environmental issues relating to their specific areas of responsibility.
- Network with peers and participate with environmental and special interest committees.
- Participate and contribute to Divisional environmental audits and issues.
- Implement Energy and Waste Reduction goals through 2030.
- Evaluate all capital projects for environmental issues including post construction.
- Assure that environmental audit and site work orders and action items are completed in a timely matter.
- Aid the Plant Management on assessment and facilitating of new construction and capital projects, including planning, AFCE preparation, budgeting, selecting vendors and equipment.
- Keep current on available technology and materials for the complex uses in the mills.
Safety
- Participate in both the complex and Divisional safety process as a resource and active member of the continuous improvement team.
- Participate in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) with OSHA and the behavioral safety process.
- Assist in Safety Audits as requested.
Training
- Develop, maintain, and conduct all environmental training for the complex.
- Provide developmental opportunities for staff
- Provide continuous education for employees and be a subject matter expert.
Working Conditions
- Office and industrial environment.
- Temperature extremes, dusty, noisy, heat, ice, and snow.
- Occasional work with hazardous materials.
- Required travel off–site and over-night trips (10%).
- Occasional weekend work
Essential Physical Functions
- Climbing of stairs and catwalks.
- Perform testing at elevated heights.
- The ability to read and effectively communicate via in person, phone, email.
- Lifting approximately 50 pounds and transporting testing equipment/samples.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the environmental field. Preference to wood or panel products, biomass, and pulp and paper industries.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point, and EPA CDX Program.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with the mill’s personnel, regulatory agencies, and the general public.
- Proven ability to interpret, develop, and provide training regarding environmental regulations, rules, manuals, and policies.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act regulations.
