The future starts here! Ready to join NXP?

Become part of the startup of a dynamic team that is leading NXP on a digital transformation journey. There is a lot of room for new ideas and innovations and you will be supported to have a continuous focus on development, coaching and creating a supportive environment for your team.

Your Team

The Analog Mixed-Signal Competence (AMSCC) department in Eindhoven is part of the worldwide Central Technology Organization (CTO) of NXP that supports all NXP Business Lines by architecting, designing, and delivering the analog and mixed-signal building blocks that are at the heart of competitive NXP products. You will be working in a diverse team with world-class subject matter specialists, where there is always room for new ideas and innovation. AMSCC employs about 100 analog/mixed-signal design specialists located in the Netherlands, India, Sweden, and US who take full responsibility for IP design and system integration.

Charge pumps play a crucial role in phase-locked loops (PLLs). A PLL is a feedback control system that compares the phase and frequency of an input reference signal to a feedback signal generated by a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO). The charge pump is a key component in the feedback loop and is responsible for converting the phase error between the reference and feedback signals into a control voltage for the VCO.

Your Responsibilities

This assignment is to investigate existing charge pumps found in literature, including those designed within NXP and eventually to design a charge pump where the performance specification is pushed beyond the boundary and which is intended to be integrated into a PLL in advanced CMOS technology.

  • Literature review of existing Charge Pumps (published and also NXP internal designs). This will include some basic simulations to understand the charge pumps and internal designs.
  • Design space exploration of current state of art charge pumps and possible future topologies and improvements. Simple design and simulations.
  • Pushing the performance specifications beyond the boundary. Schematic design and layout of a charge pump in advanced CMOS technology.
  • Complete design verification (pre and post layout).
  • Final Documentation.

What’s in it for you

  • A great opportunity to develop your skills (technical, soft skills, communication, etc.)
  • Gaining experience in a multinational and diverse environment
  • Possibility to become part of NXP’s Young Professional Talent Pool
  • Working on real assignments which contribute to NXP’s objectives

Your Profile

  • Senior year MSc, with courses related to analog circuit design/ microelectronics
  • Affinity with analog circuit design; desire to try new things and evaluate them using the Cadence IC tool suite
  • Creative and positive mindset
  • Flexible and eager for new challenges
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills in English
  • Desire for a career in analog/mixed-signal integrated circuit design

Duration

This is a full-time internship (40 hours per week) with a duration of 6 months or longer. The assignment could also be suitable as a thesis/graduation project. Please note that, to be considered for an internship/working student assignment, you need to be registered as a student during the entire period.
