Pacific Biosciences (PacBio) is seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our dynamic Platform Engineering team in Menlo Park, CA. As a leader in the field of high accuracy sequencing technology, PacBio is dedicated to advancing scientific research and healthcare solutions through innovative genomic technologies.Role Overview:The Platform Engineering team is responsible for continuously improving the existing tools, platforms and processes at PacBio.  We enable efficient development and deployment of high-quality software.

 Members of the team contribute across the entire software development process: managing and enhancing our deployment infrastructure and processes, building and maintaining automated tests and continuously improving the underlying platforms in our DNA sequencers.  This individual will work closely with multiple software teams and support them. For this role, the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment will be critical.Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and enhance existing tools, platforms, and processes
  • Drive automation at all stages of software development, release, operations, and maintenance
  • Perform application and service testing using both manual and automated testing techniques
  • Incorporating new capabilities into existing software deployment infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot and resolves technical issues related to infrastructure and applications
  • Writing testable, cross-platform code

Required Qualifications:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • Typically requires a minimum 2-5 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or a minimum 1-4 years experience with Master’s degree; or a minimum 0-4 years experience with a PhD
  • Fluency in one of more of the following languages: Python, JavaScript, C#, C++ 
  • Experience utilizing virtual machines such as VMware and container infrastructure such as Docker
  • Familiarity with CI/CD build tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins and TeamCity
  • Proficiency in Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting 
  • Experience troubleshooting and working with complex systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Linux networking, including IP configuration, firewall management, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to write and understand complex shell scripts 
  • Experience with monitoring systems such as Grafana, Prometheus and Zabbix
  • Familiarity with modern builds systems such as CMake, Gradle, and npm
