Job Summary


The main function of the Production Manager is to lead and direct all manufacturing activities throughout the Direct Mail Production areas.  These activities include work assignments, implementing schedules, dealing with personnel issues, and ensuring that the machines are crewed at published standards and cycling at or above those standards producing work that meets or exceeds quality requirements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities


  • Leads the planning, directing, and coordinating of all activities in all production areas.
  • Monitors production through entire production operation.
  • Ensures compliance with all schedules demands as well as postal regulations.
  • Ensures that the operators have all essential materials, such as accurate work orders, hourly and daily productions goals and all components to achieve production deadlines.
  • Facilitates transitions between shifts through exchange of pertinent information and eliminate downtime.
  • Reviews operator production sheets for accurate and complete data.
  • Monitors the production area for potential safety hazards and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Protects sensitive information by following HIPPA policies.
  • Reduces production waste by monitoring production processes.
  • Improves make ready times to increase throughput.
  • Ensures that all SOPs are accurate and are followed.
  • Communicates effectively to employees to enhance employee morale and teamwork.
  • Ensures proper coverage on the production floor through monitoring and communicating with department Supervisors.
  • Ensures that all safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Identifies and coordinates employee training and development needs with Supervisors and personnel on the production floor.
  • Coaches, mentors, and provides timely progressive discipline as needed and employee reviews and goal setting.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and understands the business and the financial impact of decisions made.
  • Monitors and assists with departmental hiring needs.
  • Performs employee conflict resolution and terminations in partnership with Human Resources as needed.
  • Improves department retention and implements continuous improvement initiatives in all aspects of the operation.
  • Communicates with Quality Control when switching to a new job or version of a job.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required to ensure the team's success.

Education


  • High school diploma or equivalent is required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Work Experience


  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience, with a proven track record of accomplishments in production management, potentially including expertise in areas like lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or advanced technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Must have a clear understanding of the financial impact of proper crewing, employee development, and retention.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and maintain strong relationships.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate employees at all levels.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing and print production processes, equipment, and technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make data-driven decisions.
