SUMMARY
We’re looking for a Staff Machine Learning (ML) Tech Lead to join our Engineering team. You will build and evolve Rasa’s core Conversational AI engine, leveraging LLMs. You’ll have opportunities to lead architecture decisions as well as algorithm implementations. You’ll be collaborating with engineers in your team and across the organization. As a Staff ML Tech Lead, and you'll report to an Engineering Manager.Together with the team, you’ll build Rasa Pro, our Conversation AI infrastructure product, which enables Enterprise developers to build, deploy, and maintain complex AI assistants in a production environment.
You’ll also contribute to Rasa Open Source, our Open Source offering.Full-time - 100% remote - Location: The UK, Germany, or Serbia
This is a remote position, but we cannot hire anybody outside of the UK, Germany, or Serbia for this position.
Rasa can assist with work authorization (visa sponsorship) for candidates located in Germany only.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Software Development at Rasa is not only about writing code. Your team will need your support to come up with good architectural designs, quality code, and break an ambitious vision down into milestones and issues. In order to ship machine learning products that make a difference for our enterprise customers and our community, you’ll need to:
Lead by example, by maintaining a significant level of individual contribution.
Raise the engineering bar in your team in terms of velocity and quality, mentoring junior developers and help them develop great software engineering skills.
Drive feature work beyond just implementation, taking ownership of the whole product experience.
Develop new machine learning tools that help our customers build great conversational software, and enable them to build things that they can’t currently.
Work closely with the product manager and our customers to prototype ideas quickly, remove uncertainties and drive projects forward.
Navigate our tech stack: Python, Transformers, TensorFlow, Langchain, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes among other technologies and frameworks.

Requirements
2+ years of experience as a Tech Lead
Experience in designing and building complex machine learning systems for natural language processing applications
Experience teaching & communicating technical material
Advanced knowledge in Python or another programming language
Experience fine-tuning and deploying LLMs
Comfortable with the mathematics behind machine learning

You will join the Engine squad; a team of 3 ML Engineers and 1 Backend Engineer, hailing from various places around the world, and currently working remotely from Germany, Serbia, and the UK. You’ll partner with a Product Manager and an Engineering Manager.This team is responsible for evolving the NLU, NLG, and dialogue management capabilities of our products, with a focus on addressing our customers’ organizational and operational complexities. The team primarily ships features inRasa Pro andRasa Open Source, with an impact on all our products.
Our tech stack includes: Python, Transformers, LangChain, TensorFlow, GitHub actions, and Kubernetes, among other technologies and frameworks.
