We are currently looking for a Development Test Engineer
for a Hybrid position supporting a large federal government program. This role will design, develop, and execute automated test solutions across middleware, APIs, data integrations, and end-to-end system workflows. The position involves close collaboration with software developers, QA leads, integration teams, and government partners to ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and secure applications within a complex federal environment.
The candidate must reside within the continental US.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with QA leads, developers, and test engineers to define, evolve, and promote an enterprise-wide test strategy.
- Design and execute tests against user stories covering all functional and non-functional requirements.
- Develop automated test frameworks and reusable components for API, middleware, and data-layer validations.
- Perform data verification and complex SQL-based testing using tools such as Query Analyzer or Redgate.
- Build scalable solutions for end-to-end test automation, ensuring maintainability and integration coverage.
- Plan and execute regression testing activities related to feature releases and system enhancements.
- Provide accurate testing estimates and meet established project timelines.
- Troubleshoot root causes of software defects by partnering with delivery teams, business stakeholders, and technical leads.
- Identify opportunities to optimize test execution, improve automation quality, and enhance continuous delivery pipelines.
- Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in software testing, development testing, or automation engineering.
- Strong experience testing middleware systems using Java, Node.js, or AWS-based technologies.
- Solid understanding of AWS Step Functions, State Machines, Canary deployments, and CloudWatch Logs.
- Proven expertise designing and using automation frameworks for API and data-layer testing.
- Hands-on experience with ReadyAPI/SoapUI and Groovy for automated test development.
- Experience with performance, regression, and integration testing within modern pipelines.
- Experience automating tests for CI/CD workflows, including AWS Lambda and canary releases.
- Familiarity with Rally, JIRA, and automation artifact repository tools.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively on a collaborative team.
Additional Qualifications:
- Experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or other healthcare or federal organizations (preferred).
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-stakeholder, Agile, and DevSecOps environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance.
